Laser hair removal works by selective photothermolysis. The laser uses light chosen to be absorbed by one target, the melanin in the hair shaft and bulb, while the skin around it takes in far less. The pigment turns that light into heat, and the heat damages the structures at the base of the follicle that produce new hair.
The catch is timing. A follicle responds only while it’s actively growing a hair, and at any moment only part of the follicles in an area are in that phase. The rest are resting or shedding and will cycle into growth later. That’s why one session is never enough, and why sessions are spaced to catch the next wave of growth.
Pigment matters on both sides. Dark hair gives the laser a clear target. Blonde, red, gray, and white hair have little melanin to absorb the light, so results there are limited. Skin pigment competes for the same light, which is why settings are adjusted for your skin and hair type, and why a tan changes what’s safe.
The result is long term reduction, not a promise that every hair is gone for good. Many hair removal lasers are cleared by the FDA for “permanent hair reduction.” That means a lasting drop in the number of hairs that regrow, not their elimination.
For a good candidate, a full series may mean:
The best results come with dark hair on skin that isn’t tanned. We treat the face and body, including intimate areas like the bikini line and Brazilian.
Package discounts are available when you book multiple treatments. A session takes 15 to 60 minutes, depending on the area.
We’ll pause or skip treatment if any of these apply:
If your hair is blonde, red, gray, or white, we’d rather tell you at the consultation that a laser won’t do much than sell you sessions that won’t work. Electrolysis treats light hair because it doesn’t rely on pigment. We don’t offer it, but it’s worth knowing about. Hormonal conditions such as PCOS can also keep producing new hair, so results may need more upkeep.
Your first step is the consultation, where we check your skin, hair, and medical history and set your settings.
Before each session, shave the area. At the office, you’ll put on protective eyewear, we clean the area, and we adjust the laser for your skin and hair. The laser then works across the area in a systematic pattern, with cooling to keep you comfortable.
Afterward, treated skin is often pink, with small raised bumps around the follicles. Less often, laser hair removal can cause blistering, a burn, or skin that heals darker or lighter, and that risk goes up on tanned skin. Rarely, hair growth can increase in or near a treated area.
The first few weeks often bring a surprise. For 1 to 3 weeks after a session, treated hairs work their way out of the skin and fall away. That shedding can look like regrowth, but it’s the treatment doing its job.
Most clients need 6 to 8 sessions. Results vary with hair color, skin type, the area treated, and hormones.
Sessions are performed by licensed medical providers on Rachel Polazzi’s team. Rachel is a CRNA and owns the practice. Every client has a consultation before the first session, so your settings start from your own skin and hair.
Our prices are published by area, above, so you know what a session costs before you walk in. And because we see you across the whole series, settings get adjusted as your hair thins and changes.
A series means coming back every several weeks for months, so location counts. The Sandbar is at 2323 NE 26th Ave, Suite 101, in Pompano Beach. Clients make the trip from Deerfield Beach, Lighthouse Point, Fort Lauderdale, Coral Springs, and other parts of Broward County.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It gives long term reduction, not a guarantee that every hair is gone. After a full series, most clients see significant reduction, and hair that does return tends to be finer and lighter.
How many laser hair removal sessions will I need?
Most clients need 6 to 8 sessions. Hair grows in cycles, and the laser only affects follicles that are actively growing at the time, so sessions are spaced to catch each new round.
Why does my hair seem to grow after my first sessions?
For 1 to 3 weeks after a session, treated hairs push out of the skin and fall away. It can look like new growth, but it’s the treated hair shedding.
Does laser hair removal work on blonde, red, or gray hair?
Not well. The laser needs pigment in the hair to absorb its energy, and light hair has very little. We’ll tell you honestly at your consultation whether your hair is a good match.
Do I need a consultation before my first session?
Yes. Every new laser hair removal client books a Laser Hair Reduction Consultation first, so we can check your skin, hair, and medical history before treatment.
How much does laser hair removal cost?
Small areas are $75 per session, medium areas $150, and large areas $250. Package discounts are available when you book multiple treatments.
