Injections of Botulinum Toxin, also called Botox, temporarily smooth facial wrinkles so that you appear younger. Botox injections are neurotoxins that work by weakening specific muscles, so they have less effect on creating wrinkles. Think about a bodybuilder lifting weights-if you stop lifting weights, and you stop building muscle. The same principle applies to Botox; it will keep certain facial muscles from moving, your body won’t create wrinkles.
The effects of Botox usually last for 3 to 6 months, although results will vary from patient to patient. If you stop getting injections, your wrinkles will slowly return to their appearance before treatment. Botox injection for facial wrinkles requires several injections, usually around the face (between the eyebrows, on the outside edges of the eyes, and around the crow’s feet). The dosage used will depend on your age, how bad your wrinkles are, and the reason for the injection (facial lines or excessive sweating), which we will discuss with you at the time of your consultation.
